Who is this seminar for?

For professional ministers: pastoral care, nurses, pastors, hospital chaplains, mortuary students, funeral directors, grief sounselors, seminarians, spiritual directors, etc.

About

The goal of this day is to be of service to professional ministers who with to accompany those experiencing this type of loss, on their grief journey. Author Kate Williams is familiar with this kind of pain and loss. She compiled a number of resources to help those suffering this kind of grief. Our seminar will address this particular grief experience as well as offer a choice of breakout sessions on ritual/music with Kate Williams and Michael Sylhavy, or the psychological insight for those experiencing this type of grief, with Lindsey Wimmer.

Meet the Speakers:

Kate Williams

Kate is the Vice President of Sacred Music at GIA Publications, Inc. She holds a Bachelor of Music Composition degree from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois as well as a Masters of Arts in Liturgical Studies degree from Catholic Theological Union in Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago where it was her privilege to study as a distinguished Bernardin Scholar.  

She serves as workshop leader, consultant, and musician in the Archdiocese of Chicago and abroad, following a passion to serve in multicultural, multigenerational communities, while mentoring young voices and building bridges through music ministry. 

Michael Silhavy

Michael Silhavy is an editor at GIA Publications, Inc. in Chicago, IL. As a church musician he has worked in parish, grade school, university, cathedral, and diocesan settings. He has served as editor and editorial committee member for several Roman Catholic hymnals and other ecumenical publications. Among the latter include Amen. Alleluia! A Resource for Praying Farewell; a resource of texts, music and prayer services gathered in response to the way celebrations of funerals and memorial services were impacted by the Covid 19 pandemic. From 1995-2012 he was Associate Director of the Archdiocesan Worship Center and member of the Parish Services Team for the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis.      

 

Lindsey Wimmer

Lindsey Wimmer holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from St Catherine University, a Master of Science degree in pediatric nursing from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from St Catherine University.  She is certified as a pediatric nurse practitioner and worked in emergency and primary care settings.  Lindsey also taught nursing at the associates and baccalaureate levels for several years.  She is the founder and Executive Director of Star Legacy Foundation – a national non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention and care of poor pregnancy outcomes. Lindsey is certified in Perinatal Loss Care and has been recognized with the Daisy, Butterfly, and Point of Light Awards.  In 2016, she was honored with the Marian Sokol Award for the Advancement of Stillbirth Awareness and Prevention, and in 2020, she was named one of L’Oreal’s Top Ten Women of Worth.  Lindsey and her husband, Trent, live in Eden Prairie, MN with their children Grant, Bennett, and Austyn.  In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, and supporting her kids’ activities.
